PREAMBLE

More than even before, the need for research in Natural Medicine with a view to improving both the preparation and application of same, so as to make use of the abundant Natural Resources for the benefit of mankind is very genuine. More so, only physicians with relevant knowledge could actually utilized in a controlled way the abundant gift of Nature.

The terms ALTERNATIVE and COMPLEMENTARY have always attracted criticism. The founding fathers of this Council therefore chose the term NATURAL MEDICINE as more appropriate definition of our scope. Natural Medicine means the reliance on the products of Natural Energy for healing in line with Nature's purpose. Products of Nature stands for the Natural Flora and Fauna (Plant and animal Products), while Natural Energy stands for the Physical, Biological and Chemical energy both within the body and in the environment. The holistic use of these natural effects in the healing arts constitutes Natural Medicine.

Osteopathy, Naturopathy, Physiotherapy, Homoeopathy, Acupuncture, Chiropractic and other forms of Natural Medicine conform to proven Clinical Scientific Principles.

Scientific Medicine can be defined as any art of Medicine in which the effects of a quantifiable stimulus on the human body can be predicted, verified and consistently monitored and controlled.

The Nigerian Council of Physicians of Natural Medicine is wholly dedicated to the development of a scientific approach in the application of natural stimuli in Medicine, and this approach must be subjected to verification and control in the qualitative manner.

The Nigerian Council of Physicians of Natural Medicine has painstakingly put in place measure that will consistently align the Council with the aspiration of the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in assuring affordable health for all.

RELEVANT LEGISLATION

Natural Medicine is legally practiced in Nigeria. Decree 38 of 1988 established the legal basis for the practice of Osteopathic and chiropractic Medicine. This was followed four years later by the MEDICAL AND DENTAL COUNCIL (AMENDMENT) DECREE of 1992 which further enshrined the legal basis for the practice of all recognized forms of Natural Medicine with emphasis on:
